MEET THE GOVERNING BODY

 

Kate-Lee Wells, Headteacher

Appointed by Trust Board - Ex-Officio

Kate studied Psychology and then Teaching in Bristol and Devon and has worked in Special Education for the last 15 years. Kate lives in South Bristol with her husband, toddler and cat. Kate is passionate about ensuring that pupils coming to KnowleDGE have a positive experience and make progress socially, emotionally and academically and that staff are happy and healthy.

When not at school, Kate enjoys family time, walking, reading and visiting nice cafés for tea and cake. 

 

Ben Moss
Parent Governor

Ben Moss - Head of External Digital Communications, Aviva. Parent governor at Knowle DGE

Ben has lived in Bristol for 20 years and is married to Jodie who runs her own drama school. They have three boys, all who are autistic. Their twins are in lower school at Knowle DGE.

Ben has worked at Aviva for over 10 years, starting in their media relations department before leading the team responsible for corporate social media and the corporate website. Prior to this, Ben was a Broadcast Journalist working as a reporter and presenter on a variety of radio stations from BBC Radio 1 and 5Live through to GWR Bristol and BBC Wiltshire. 

 Ben has previously been a parent governor with responsibility for SEN at Bridge Farm Primary School in Bristol.

Jo Newman
Community Governor
Appointed from 26 February 2024 - 25 February 2028

 

Jo is an independent careers and progression adviser for young people. She currently supports Knowle DGE as well as other schools in the Bristol area. Jo has worked with young people in both SEN and alternative provision for 17 years and prior to this was an apprenticeship assessor.

 Jo is a specialist in post 16 transition and NEET prevention and is passionate about supporting young people to plan their future and helping them to overcome any barriers to progression.

 Jo has a great deal of experience in supporting schools, parents and carers, post 16 partners and employers in their approach to student transition and has developed frameworks to make transition more impactful.

 Jo’s other important job role is being a mum to two children who are primary school age. She also enjoys time to relax and loves Pilates, yoga, swimming and spending time with family and friends.

 

 

Caroline Down, Chair of Governors
Director Appointed Governor
Appointed from 18 July 2022 - 17 July 2025

Caroline has 30 years experience as a teacher. Most of her career was served in East Bristol where she also opened an Alternative Provision Free School. For the last three years she was head of an SEMH school in Swindon, before taking early retirement.

She has a passion for children who struggle with mainstream settings and an in depth knowledge of trauma and SEN.

Caroline is also a trained therapeutic foster carer and enjoyed the challenge of fostering teenagers.

Caroline enjoys travel, reading and playing tennis in her spare time.

 

 

Nick Taylor
Director Appointed Governor
Appointed from 12 December 2022 - 11 December 2025

Nick has worked in Human Resources for over 20 years, mainly with financial and professional services both locally and globally and has more recently stepped back and now takes on mainly short term consultancy projects. Whilst studying for his Masters in HR, Nick briefly taught human resource management at a local college. 
Born and bred in Bristol Nick is married and has a young son still at primary school. His main interest is travelling and has on occasion taken extended breaks between roles to spend time abroad. 
Nick has an interest in special educational needs and hopes to share  his personal and professional experiences within this role.
