Middle School

In Middle School we range from Year 8 to Year 9. We mostly operate on a primary model (keeping the same teacher and class). We operate using a themes based curriculum ensuring students are accessing the National Curriculum but at the right level and the right time for our students. Students receive daily interventions in class and have support from out of class interventions on rotation when needed for each student.

In Middle school, we continue to work on our independence skills and challenge ourselves with our learning. We start to get a bit of a taste of a secondary model (ready to transition to upper school) with different teachers for Science, PE, access to the carousel - Art, Music. At times we have a lesson a week from some of the English / Maths teachers from Upper school to support us with our transition to Upper school.

We learn the same subjects as would be found in mainstream but include a lesson a day called ‘WoW’ which stands for ‘Ways of Wellbeing’. This lesson includes elements of PSHE, RSE, physical and mental health as well as speech and language with a different focus each day.

We enjoy outdoor learning in Lower and have termly visits to Horseworld, Bristol Cycling Centre, Gymnastics and Swimming to name but a few! We also have access to Forest Schools provision and Gardening areas.

The Heads of Lower school are Craig Caradine who oversees Year 8 classes and Tamsin Karim who oversees Year 9 classes.
