Lower school

In Lower School, we support children from Year 1 to Year 7 to become confident, independent and engaged learners.

Our topic-based curriculum is practical and hands-on, with children learning through exploration, experience and meaningful activities. All classes use continuous provision and targeted interventions to support individual needs and help children develop across all areas of the curriculum. As children progress, they build their independence and have opportunities to access specialist areas of the school, including the Art Room and Science Labs.

Wellbeing and regulation are at the heart of our approach. Every child takes part in a daily WOW (Ways of Wellbeing) lesson, which brings together PSHE, RSE, physical and mental health, communication and speech and language. We place a strong emphasis on helping children understand themselves, develop positive relationships and learn strategies to support their emotional regulation and readiness to learn.

We believe that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. Children have regular opportunities for outdoor learning, developing their physical skills, confidence, independence and social development. They can access our outdoor spaces, Forest School provision and gardening areas, alongside a range of practical experiences throughout the year. Above all, our Lower School community learn by our values:   We are kind, we are fun, we are growing and learning.

The Heads of Lower School are Hannah Harold, who oversees KS1/2, and Rob Baker, who oversees KS2/3.
